We hear the story of Jesus’s birth and ask, “How does that relate to me today?” How can a baby born over 2000 years ago help me? Until finally you realize that his birth was meant for you – to bring you joy and to grant you peace.
Christmas is a time to celebrate God’s glory. It’s a time when bright stars shine on unsightly stables. A time when angels of God sing to simple, smelly shepherds. A time where the wise take time out of their busy lives and follow him. A time when we stand up and sing of God’s glory – it’s hearing the story of Jesus again at Christmastime where if we listen closely, we will feel a sense of Joy and Peace.
Unfortunately, this expression of God’s love sometimes gets lost, especially in the hubbub of the Christmas season. We get busy in the trappings and activities of the holidays and lose sight of the fact that Jesus’ birth is the ultimate love story. Now that the holiday is over, we need to make some quiet time to be with our God, and to sit and re-read his Word – the bible again, take time to clear away the clutter of Christmas, and take a good look again at the love that came down from heaven for us that night so long ago in Bethlehem!
With that night, God offers us an eternal peace, so that no matter what is going on in the world around you, you can find fulfillment and peace knowing that you are loved, that you matter and that you are never alone. Whatever you are facing today, know that God will give you the strength you need and the words to say, he will bring people into your life to help you, he will grant you opportunities that will allow you to overcome life’s troubles. Your earthly circumstances have no bearing on your heavenly journey. The birth of Jesus brings with it Joy and Peace that no one – but you – can extinguish.
God’s Gift of Joy and Peace: A Joy and inner peace that comes from within – a knowing that whatever is happening in your life, whatever struggles you are facing, nothing will be able to extinguish the joy of knowing that Jesus was born just for you. And that with God’s grace, worry and fear will flee and you can find peace in God’s tender embrace.
God’s gift came to us wrapped in Joy and peace.
